Job Description

POSITION GOAL
To provide professional assistance and services to Exceptional Student Education programs in the Volusia County Schools

  1. 1. Assure the safety of all children comes first.
  2. 2. Maintain close and regular contact with the Supported Competitive Employment (SCE) Specialist for appropriate program monitoring and accountability.
  3. 3. Assist the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher in developing goals for the Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting.
  4. 4. Attend student IEP's on those students assigned for training, if requested.
  5. 5. Provide on the job intensive assistance to students in job activities until the student has mastered job requirements, with the exception of those positions funded by the Third Party Cooperative Agreement (TPCA).
  6. 6. Implement and facilitate follow-along and support activities, as needed.
  7. 7. Provide transportation training for the student as needed.
  8. 8. Work closely with students, parents, teachers and necessary agencies to assure appropriate job placement.
  9. 9. Work closely with employers, supervisors, and other employees in order to monitor student performance.
  10. 10. Conduct job development, student assessment, and job matching for students in program.
  11. 11. Match students to jobs based on their abilities, interests, needs, preferences and strengths.
  12. 12. Participate in activities with collaborating agencies to ensure smooth flow of services and transition after high school.
  13. 13. Complete required program documentation and reports, submitting originals to supervisor in a timely and appropriate manner.
  14. 14. Participate in scheduled networking activities in the community.
  15. 15. Complete related state training programs as well as other professional growth activities assigned.
  16. 16. Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned.
  17. 17. Work as part of a team that fosters efficiency and productivity, and promotes cooperation with administrators, students, student employers, school community and parents.
  18. 18. Abide by and monitor safety rules/ and standards and comply with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements.
  19. 19. Report any hazards that would present a threat to the safety of students.
  20. 20. Maintain order, discipline and a pleasant environment by monitoring student behavior.
  21. 21. Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator, ESE and Student Services.

Required Qualifications/Certifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Successful completion of the Volusia County Schools' substitute teacher training course (STAR)
  • Three (3) years experience working with students with moderate or severe disabilities
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (which may include holidays, weekends, or nights depending on student's work schedule)
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver's License; if a holder of any other valid US state-issued Driver's License, agree to acquire a Florida Driver's License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required
  • Willingness to use own automobile to transport self and students as required to meet job requirements, and to carry a minimum of $25,000/$50,000 insurance coverage
