Job summary

Volusia County Schools is seeking an EDEP Group Leader for the Palm Terrace site. You will enrich students' educational, emotional, and physical well-being within the after-school program.

The role emphasizes supervision, proper drill procedures, and active participation in staff development. Requires high school diploma and the ability to work with children in grades 6-8, with supervision by the Site Lead.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience managing activities for children (volunteer or paid).
• First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain within first year of employment.
• STAR substitute teacher training preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of all program phases and job.
• Communicate with students, parents, staff and Site Lead.
• Supervise group activities and ensure safety and order at all times.
• Coordinate with volunteers and supervise assigned groups.
• Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
• Notify Site Lead of absences and maintain equipment and materials.

POSITION GOAL:
Enrich the educational, emotional and physical well being of students in the quality Volusia County Schools’ After School Program

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain a thorough knowledge of all phases of the program and job.
2. Successfully complete appropriate tasks and follow procedures and policies.
3. Establish and maintain good judgment in support of the program.
4. Remain in the program area during assigned hours unless specifically assigned duty elsewhere.
5. Establish and maintain positive communication with students, parents, school staff and Site Lead.
6. Become familiar with the program site and follow the directions for all emergency procedures: fire drills, severe weather drill, emergency evacuation procedures and others as needed.
7. Successfully complete in-service and staff development sessions as required (CPR, GSM, etc. . .).
8. Attend and participate in required periodic staff meetings and/or workshops
9. Ensure proper supervision at all times.
10. Maintain work area in a neat, clean manner conducive to constructive play appropriate to the age group.
11. Coordinate activities with volunteers working with his/her group of children.
12. Effectively carry out assigned group activities.
13. Establish and maintain promptness and attendance.
14. Notify the Site Lead and/or Principal/Administrator in a timely manner of the need to be absent. This notification may be required in writing.
15. Ensure the equipment and materials are arranged, available, and maintained in good condition.
16. Encourage parental involvement.
17. Perform general housekeeping duties for the program as assigned.
18. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Site Lead.

Required Qualifications/Certifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Hold a High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
• Experience in working effectively with and managing organized activities for children (volunteer or paid)
• Holds current certification or will successfully complete the following course during the first year of employment: First Aid/CPR
• Successful completion of the Volusia County Schools substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of date of hire is preferred

• Ability to manage creative enrichment programs for students in grades 6-8
