Job summary

TxDOT's Employee Wellness Program is seeking a motivated graduate student intern to support statewide wellness initiatives. You will help plan, promote, and support programs that encourage healthier lifestyles and positive workplace culture.

The role blends people-focused work with behind-the-scenes project tasks. The ideal candidate is proactive, communicates well, and can present to groups while balancing creativity with guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Experience creating newsletters, marketing materials, presentations, or promotional content.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Comfort presenting in front of groups and translating concepts to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, promoting, and supporting statewide wellness programs.
  • Develop wellness communications and promotional content.
  • Facilitate presentations and support program operations.
  • Provide administrative support and coordinate projects.
  • Contribute to event coordination and execution as needed.

Are you passionate about health, wellbeing, communications, and helping people thrive at work? Do you enjoy taking initiative, bringing ideas to life, and working on projects that make a real impact?

TxDOT's Live Well. Work Well. Employee Wellness Program is looking for a motivated graduate student to join our statewide wellness team. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting wellness programs that serve thousands of employees across Texas.

You’ll work directly with the Employee Wellness Team to help plan, promote, and support programs that encourage healthier lifestyles, improve wellbeing, and create a positive workplace culture. No two days are exactly alike—you may be developing wellness communications one day, helping facilitate a presentation the next, and supporting a statewide wellness initiative the day after.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys both people-focused work and behind-the-scenes project support, and who wants to build real‑world experience in employee wellness, health promotion, communications, and program operations.

Performs routine administrative support work. Work involves performing a wide range of administrative and office support work for the department. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Assists with special projects.

Prepares, assembles, reviews, and verifies various documents and/or forms.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a discipline related to area of assignment
  • Experience: No work experience required
Other Conditions
  • Must be at least 16 years of age, and currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college/university.
  • Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience creating newsletters, marketing materials, presentations, or promotional content.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Familarity with Sharepoint, Canva, Adobe Experience Manager, or other content management tools.
  • Experience coordinating events, projects, or programs.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with others
  • Communicating technical information effectively
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Sitting-prolonged periods of time
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
