Job summary

Jobot seeks a talented Employee Benefits Attorney to join our nationally recognized practice in Ann Arbor, MI. You will advise employers on qualified retirement plans, health and welfare matters, and executive compensation, ensuring ERISA compliance and fiduciary governance.

The ideal candidate has a J.D., admission to practice, and 3+ years of employee benefits experience, with strong drafting and negotiation skills. This on-site role offers a path to partnership and robust health benefits.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction, or ability to obtain admission promptly.
• 3+ years of experience practicing employee benefits, executive compensation, ERISA, and related tax matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on qualified retirement plans, including 401(k), pension, profit-sharing, and ESOP arrangements.
• Counsel employers on health and welfare benefit plans, cafeteria plans, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and related compliance matters.
• Draft, review, and amend plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and related employee benefits materials.
• Provide guidance regarding ERISA fiduciary responsibilities, governance, and compliance obligations.
• Assist clients with IRS and Department of Labor audits, investigations, and correction programs.
• Structure and negotiate executive compensation arrangements, including employment agreements, severance agreements, bonus plans, equity compensation, deferred compensation, and change-in-control agreements.
• Advise on employee benefits and compensation issues arising in mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and other business transactions.
• Conduct legal research and prepare client memoranda regarding regulatory developments and compliance issues.
• Collaborate with corporate, tax, labor and employment, and healthcare attorneys on multidisciplinary matters.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships while providing practical and business-oriented legal advice.
