Position Summary:
The Employee Benefits Account Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients and carriers, managing the day-to-day service of group benefit accounts. This role requires a high level of client service, attention to detail, and benefits knowledge. The Account Manager works collaboratively with producers and other team members to ensure clients receive timely, accurate, and compliant solutions for their employee benefit needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Service & Relationship Management
- Serve as the lead service contact for assigned group clients.
- Maintain strong relationships with HR contacts and decision-makers.
- Respond promptly to client inquiries related to plan coverage, eligibility, claims, billing, and compliance.
- Manage the renewal process including requesting quotes, analyzing proposals, preparing presentations, and assisting with carrier negotiations.
- Coordinate open enrollment activities including timelines, employee meetings, communication materials, and carrier setup.
- Support implementation of new plans, products, or services.
- Liaise with insurance carriers and vendors to resolve service issues and secure plan details.
- Submit enrollment, termination, and change requests; ensure timely follow-up and confirmation.
Compliance & Documentation
- Assist clients with compliance-related responsibilities including ACA reporting, Section 125, ERISA wrap documents, etc.
- Ensure HIPAA compliance and data security protocols are followed at all times.
- Partner with producers to support client retention and cross-sell opportunities.
- Attend regular team meetings and agency training sessions.

Qualifications:
- Experience: 2 years of experience in employee benefits administration, account management or related insurance role; in depth knowledge of group benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA/HSA and voluntary benefits
- Education: High school diploma or G.E.D required, Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Insurance or related field preferred
- Certifications/Licensing: Active Michigan Life & Health Insurance License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Technical Requirements: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. Proficiency in benefits administration programs necessary (e.g., Employee Navigator, Ease, BSwift). Experience with compliance tools preferred.
- Physical Requirements: This position primarily involves sedentary work performed in an office environment. The employee must be able to remain in a seated position for extended periods while using a computer and telephone. Frequent use of hands and fingers is required for typing, data entry, and handling documents. The role may occasionally require standing, walking short distances, and lifting or moving items up to 10 pounds (such as files or office supplies).
