Job summary

BLS seeks an experienced Employee Benefit Plan Accountant to join our team and work on financial statements for employee benefit plans, including defined contribution and defined benefit plans, as well as health and welfare plans.

You will assist with Form 5500 filings, manage plan audits with clients and service providers, and ensure ERISA compliance. The role requires strong attention to detail, solid analytical skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Engagement Accounting software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2-7 years of experience in employee benefit plan accounting or auditing.
• Knowledge of ERISA and Internal Revenue Code requirements for retirement plans.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Engagement Accounting software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation and review of financial statements of employee benefit plans (e.g., 401(k), 403(b), defined benefit, and health & welfare plans).
• Assist in the preparation of Form 5500 and related filings.
• Manage audits of employee benefit plans and coordinate with clients and service providers.
• Ensure ERISA and other regulatory compliance.
• Perform testing and reconciliation of reports, participant data, contributions, distributions and loans.
• Write comments and recommendations for process improvements to clients after audits.
• Communicate with clients, auditors, and stakeholders to resolve financial issues during audits.
• Maintain accurate records and files for all benefit plan activities.
