Job summary

Firstsource is seeking a Patient Financial Advocate in the US to screen patients at hospitals for eligibility assistance programs, bedside or ER. You will provide information, reports, and regular progress updates to client contacts as part of a dynamic healthcare support team.

You will conduct on-site screenings, coordinate with hospital staff, and guide patients through enrollment applications for state, county, and federal assistance programs, while maintaining confidentiality and quality

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–3 years’ experience in medical coding, medical billing, eligibility or related medical experience preferred.
• Previous customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Continuously review the hospital census or follow referral procedures to identify self-pay patients.
• Screen patients referred for eligibility programs at State, County, and Federal levels.
• Initiate the application process at the patient’s bedside when feasible.
• Identify patient needs and assist enrollment applications for the appropriate agency.
• Introduce patients to Firstsource services and inform them of regular follow-up.
• Facilitate the transition for the backend Patient Advocate Specialist to establish rapport with the patient.
• Record patient information on the in-house screening sheet.
• Document screening results in the onsite tracking tool and hospital system.
• Identify self-pay outpatient/ER accounts from census and review system data.
• Conduct face-to-face screenings on-site; reach patients by phone if needed.
• Document outpatient/ER accounts when accepted in the hospital system and onsite tool.
• Perform fieldwork, including patient home visits, to screen for eligibility in state, county and federal programs.
• Fulfil any other duties as assigned by the client contract.
• Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with hospital staff at all levels.
• Report significant occurrences to management promptly.
• Access information for the Patient Advocate Specialist as needed.
• Maintain an accurate log of accounts referred daily.
• Achieve specified goals and objectives as assigned by management.
• Uphold confidentiality standards for account information.
• Maintain an organized and tidy workstation.
• Adhere to policies in the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
• Participate in the Corporate Compliance Program.
