Job summary

Chicago Behavioral Hospital in Des Plaines, IL seeks a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join our evening/overnight care team. You will provide continuous supervision, support, and positive role modeling to patients across ages, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.

The role focuses on recording vital signs, applying therapeutic interventions, participating in MHT-led groups, and assisting patients through discharge while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; or CNA preferred; Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately record vital signs
• Exercise judgment in patient interactions and report changes to the RN
• Follow therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team and provide information for development and revision
• Employ crisis-intervention techniques, conduct MHT-led groups, and use CPI techniques
• Assist patients through discharge, guide in adjusting to life changes, and help with personal hygiene
• Comply with policies for a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, practicing universal precautions and responding to patient care priorities.
