Mental Health Technician (MHT)

Job Location: Lake Behavioral Hospital – Waukegan, IL 60085

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $17.00 – $23.00 per hour with a $800.00 sign‑on bonus and generous shift differentials (overnights)

Shift: Overnights 11:00pm – 7:30am

Responsibilities

• Accurately record vital signs.
• Exercise judgment in patient interactions and report changes to the RN.
• Follow therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team and provide information for development and revision.
• Employ crisis‑intervention techniques, conduct MHT‑led groups, and use facility‑approved CPI techniques.
• Assist patients through discharge, guide in adjusting to life changes, and help with personal hygiene.
• Comply with policies for a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, practicing universal precautions and responding to patient care priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, or Certified Nursing Assistant; a degree in social work, recreational therapy, or another therapeutic discipline preferred.
• One year of related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and an understanding of mental illness.
• May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
