Job Description

Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store.

Supports Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables; works alternate schedule with the Store Manager with minimal overlap; assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager. Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.

Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure teams are engaged and performing their responsibilities to achieve company deliverables.

Customer Experience
  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Models and shares customer service best practices.
  • Monitors customer service, provides coaching, training, and develops plans for improvements in both the front-end and pharmacy. Empowers team members to find impactful resolutions for customers; seeks solutions that exceed customer expectations and build loyalty.
  • Accountable for improving overall customer service metrics.
Operations
  • Supervises store operation and team activities, including assigning daily tasks, delegating responsibilities, managing opening/closing shifts, approving time records, and handling scheduling conflicts to ensure proper coverage.
  • Collaborates with external partners to support community outreach and external partnerships aligned with store goals.
  • Supports Store Manager in leveraging data, analysis, and team input to make informed decisions, follow-up, and monitor impact.
  • Supervises cash management, including register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, change orders, and bookkeeping.
  • Manages inventory, including resets, revisions, price changes, and trend analysis to create corrective actions; trains team on inventory procedures.
  • Ensures execution of operational feedback, store cleanliness, repair, maintenance, safety, and compliance with laws and regulations, including sale of alcohol, tobacco, food, and pharmacy products.
  • Completes special assignments and other tasks as needed.
Business Performance Management
  • Analyzes financial and performance data; creates action plans to support business goals.
  • Uses KPIs and other tools to drive store improvements; collaborates with Store Manager on sales initiatives and growth opportunities.
  • Supports pharmacy operations during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician if necessary.
People & Performance Management
  • Leads and trains team members; provides coaching, mentoring, and career development support. Handles performance issues, discipline, and termination when appropriate.
  • Sets responsibilities, performance goals, and provides feedback to enhance individual and team effectiveness.
  • Manages talent acquisition, staffing, and succession planning to ensure a diverse and qualified pipeline of future leaders.
Training & Personal Development
  • Completes Store Manager training programs and required courses.
  • Monitors own performance, seeks feedback, and maintains an Individual Development Plan.
  • Obtains and maintains valid pharmacy technician license as required.
Communications
  • Maintains open communication through one-on-one and group meetings; addresses team questions and concerns.
  • Assists in planning and communicating store strategies.

External Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program, or High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, ethics, motivation, communication skills, and business acumen.
  • Completion of Store Manager training (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials within 12 weeks.
  • Fluent in English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and accept promotion if offered, including possible relocation.
  • Ability to transfer within the same hiring area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Management experience, including supervising others and managing both front-end and pharmacy, preferred for internal candidates.
  • Retail or food industry experience, preferred for external candidates.
