Job Description
Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store.
Supports Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables; works alternate schedule with the Store Manager with minimal overlap; assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager. Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.
Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure teams are engaged and performing their responsibilities to achieve company deliverables.
Customer Experience
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Models and shares customer service best practices.
- Monitors customer service, provides coaching, training, and develops plans for improvements in both the front-end and pharmacy. Empowers team members to find impactful resolutions for customers, seeking solutions that exceed expectations and build loyalty.
- Accountable for improving overall customer service metrics.
Operations
- Supervises store operations and team activities, including assigning daily tasks, delegating responsibilities, managing shifts, approving time records, and resolving scheduling conflicts to ensure proper coverage.
- Collaborates with external partners to support community outreach and external partnerships, assisting the Pharmacy Operations Manager in seeking opportunities.
- Supports Store Manager in leveraging data and team input to make data-driven decisions, follow-up, and monitor impacts.
- Supervises cash management, including register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, and change orders.
- Oversees inventory management for both front end and pharmacy, analyzing trends, conducting resets, and training team members on inventory procedures.
- Ensures store cleanliness, repairs, maintenance, and safety protocols are followed, including emergency responses.
- Ensures team members are proficient with all computer and technology systems.
- Maintains compliance with all policies, laws, and regulations, including sale of alcohol, tobacco, food, and pharmacy products.
- Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Business Performance Management
- Analyzes financial and performance data independently; creates action plans to meet business goals.
- Uses KPIs and operating statements to engage the team and drive store improvements, collaborating with the Store Manager on sales initiatives.
- Supports Pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician if needed.
People & Performance Management
- Leads and trains team members, providing coaching, mentoring, and career development support.
- Manages performance through responsibility assignment, goal setting, feedback, and recognition.
- Recruits and retains talent, develops pipelines for future leaders, and manages staffing needs and hiring processes.
- Follows proper procedures for recruitment, record keeping, and training per company policies and laws.
- Establishes a culture of accountability with clear expectations and performance management.
Training & Personal Development
- Completes Store Manager training programs and required courses.
- Monitors personal performance, seeks feedback, and maintains an Individual Development Plan.
- Obtains and maintains a valid pharmacy technician license as required by state.
Communications
- Maintains open communication with team through meetings and discussions, addressing questions and concerns.
- Assists in planning and communicating store and company strategies.
External Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program; or High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated leadership, ethics, motivation, communication skills, and business acumen.
- Completion of Store Manager training (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials within 12 weeks, if applicable.
- Fluent in English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Willing to accept promotion to Store Manager, which may involve relocation.
- Ability to transfer within the same hiring area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Internal candidates: Management experience supervising others and managing both front-end and pharmacy.
- External candidates: Business majors or retail/food industry experience.
