Job Description
Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store.
Supports Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables; works alternate schedule with the Store Manager with minimal overlap; assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager. Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.
Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure teams are engaged and performing their responsibilities to achieve company deliverables.
Customer Experience
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Shares customer service best practices.
- Monitors customer service, provides coaching, training, and develops improvement plans for both front-end and pharmacy teams. Empowers team members to find impactful resolutions for customers, seeking solutions that exceed expectations and build loyalty.
- Accountable for improving overall customer service metrics.
Operations
- Supervises store operation and team activities, including task delegation, shift management, time approval, and scheduling to ensure proper coverage.
- Collaborates with external partners to support community outreach and external partnerships.
- Supports Store Manager in data analysis, decision-making, and monitoring store impact.
- Manages cash operations, including register counts, bank withdrawals, safe deposits, and bookkeeping.
- Oversees inventory management, including resets, price changes, and trend analysis for corrective actions.
- Executes operational feedback through delegation and supervision.
- Ensures store cleanliness, maintenance, and safety, including emergency responses.
- Ensures team proficiency with computer systems and software.
- Maintains compliance with policies, laws, and regulations, including sale of regulated products.
- Completes special assignments as needed.
Business Performance Management
- Analyzes financial and performance data; creates action plans for store improvement.
- Uses KPIs and other tools to engage the team and drive growth initiatives.
- Supports Pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician if necessary.
People & Performance Management
- Leads and trains team members, providing coaching, mentoring, and career development support.
- Manages performance through responsibilities, goal-setting, feedback, and recognition.
- Recruits, retains talent, and develops a pipeline of future leaders, managing staffing needs and participation in hiring.
- Follows proper procedures for recruitment, record-keeping, and training per policies and laws.
- Establishes a culture of accountability with clear expectations and performance management tools.
Training & Personal Development
- Completes Store Manager training programs and ongoing development courses.
- Monitors personal performance, seeks feedback, and maintains an Individual Development Plan.
- Obtains and maintains a valid pharmacy technician license as required.
Communications
- Maintains open communication with team through meetings and discussions.
- Assists in planning and communicating store strategy.
External Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, or completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program; or High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience.
- Leadership abilities, business ethics, self-motivation, strong communication skills, and business acumen.
- Completion of Store Manager training (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials within 12 weeks.
- Fluent in English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Willing to accept promotion or transfer to other Walgreens stores as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Management experience, including supervising others, managing work, and experience across front-end and pharmacy (internal candidates).
- Business majors or prior retail/food industry experience (external candidates).
