Job description

Premier Veterinary Group in Orland Park is looking for a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Critical Care Department.

The primary responsibility is to triage and provide care for patients presenting to and hospitalized in our Emergency and Critical Care Department. The successful candidate embodies our culture of treating every client with the utmost courteous and attentive treatment, with a keen sensitivity to the emotional bond between owners and their pets. This is a 36-hour per week position with the overnight team, and participation in some holiday coverage is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Triaging incoming patients and managing clients throughout their visit
  • Partnering with DVMs in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
  • Completing patient daily treatments in a timely manner at key treatment times
  • Assessing hospitalized patients using intuitive skills as a Technician
  • Assisting with flow and organization of the Emergency and Critical Care department
  • Obtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates
  • Utilizing different modalities of imaging for patient assessment
  • Executing, monitoring, and recovering all assigned sedation and anesthetic events

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the responsibilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Skills and Experience:

  • General nursing care and treatment of patients
  • Administering and monitoring anesthesia
  • Assisting the veterinarian in procedures
  • Admitting and discharging patients
  • Client communication and education

Educational Requirements:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Several years of related job experience
  • Certification or licensing as a veterinary technician is preferred
