Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh is seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians for our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. We offer competitive benefits and a clear leveling system that rewards experience and advancement.

Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience, and shift differentials apply for nights and weekends. This is a full-time role in our fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Emergency/critical care experience preferred.
• Ability to monitor anesthesia and patient vitals.
• Proficient in digital radiography and venipuncture.
• VTS credentialing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergencies and record vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.
• Interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Administer medications and manage IV access.
• Mentor and train co-workers.

Pay: $21.10 - $40.60 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.

** Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $6.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.50 Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• A re proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
