Job summary

VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital in Downers Grove, IL seeks a veterinary technician for full-time overnight shifts. You will deliver advanced nursing care to emergency and critically ill patients and work closely with critical care specialists to stabilize patients.

The role involves triage, venipuncture, IV placement, imaging, lab diagnostics, oxygen therapy, and transfusion support while educating clients and supporting a calm, collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Overnight/3rd shift availability.
• Experience in emergency or critical care is preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional nursing care to emergency and critically ill patients.
• Collaborate with Criticalists, ER Doctors, Specialists, and technicians.
• Perform triage assessments and assist with patient stabilization.
• Utilize venipuncture, IV placement, imaging, lab diagnostics, oxygen therapy, and transfusion support.
• Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients, recognizing changes and communicating with the team.
• Assist with emergency procedures and advanced treatments.
• Educate clients and provide clear discharge instructions.

Job description

Schedule:

Full-time opportunity. Overnight/3rd shift, 3 x 12 hour days (7 pm - 8 am.)

Compensation:

$22 - 35/hr, and the starting range for technicians is determined by licensure, skill set, and years of experience. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available to eligible new hires. Terms and conditions apply.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technician who enjoys utilizing advanced technical skills, critical thinking, and compassionate nursing care in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

In This Role, You Will:

• Provide exceptional nursing care to emergency and critically ill patients.
• Collaborate closely with Criticalists, ER Doctors, Specialists, and fellow technicians.
• Perform triage assessments and assist with patient stabilization.
• Utilize advanced technical skills including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics, oxygen therapy, and blood transfusion support.
• Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients, recognizing subtle changes in patient status and communicating findings to the medical team.
• Assist with emergency procedures and advanced treatments.
• Educate clients and provide clear discharge instructions.
• Help create a positive, collaborative environment focused on outstanding patient care.
