Job summary

VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital in Downers Grove, IL is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician Supervisor to lead our Emergency Services and Intensive/Critical Care teams. This role combines hands-on clinical work with team leadership in a busy, 24/7 specialty and emergency hospital.

You will mentor ER/ICU technicians and assistants, provide hands-on care for critical patients, and collaborate with ER doctors, specialists, and hospital leadership to optimize patient flow and department

Qualifications

• Licensed CVT with current credentials.
• Experience in emergency or critical care settings preferred.
• Leadership and mentoring experience required.
• Ability to manage high-volume, fast-paced ER/ICU.

Job description

VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital , is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician Supervisor to lead our Emergency Services and Intensive/Critical Care teams. This is an exciting opportunity for a veterinary technician leader who wants to combine hands-on clinical work with team leadership in a busy, 24/7 specialty and emergency hospital.

Schedule:

Flexible schedule with alternating weekend rotation. 4 x 10s or 3 x 12s, Day/1st or Swing/2nd shift.

Compensation:

Starting range is $ 35 - 40/hr and is determined by license, skill set, and years of experience in the field. Financial growth opportunities available. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available to eligible new hires. Terms and conditions apply.

About the Role:

You won’t be leading ER and ICU alone. You'll work alongside an existing ER/ICU Supervisor as part of a collaborative leadership team, sharing responsibilities and supporting one another across both departments. This structure provides additional leadership support, partnership in day-to-day operations, and an opportunity to work together on team development, staffing, and clinical initiatives.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the ER/ICW technician and assistant teams
• Provide hands-on support with emergency and critical care patients
• Partner closely with ER doctors, specialists, and hospital leadership
• Help manage patient flow, staffing, department coverage, and daily operations
• Support training, onboarding, and ongoing skill development for technicians and assistants
• Promote high standards of patient care, safety, and teamwork
• Help identify opportunities to improve department processes and efficiency
• Serve as a clinical resource for the team during cases
• Participate in a weekend on-call rotation with other supervisors
