BluePearl Pet Hospital in Grand Rapids is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or Technician to join as a Patient Care Coordinator in our emergency and specialty hospital. The role features day and swing shifts with rotating weekends, acting as a liaison between front and back of the hospital to streamline client/patient flow between waiting room, exam rooms, CSR staff, and clinical staff.

Evening, weekend, and holiday work across both locations may be required.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years veterinary/animal background preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Triaging incoming patients, collect and record vital signs, document patient history
• Monitor waiting/exam room clients; update clients on wait time/patient status
• Maintain communication with doctor and staff to minimize wait times and maximize patient flow
• Coordinate patient flow between multiple specialties, focus on ER services
• Assist with discharge for emergency and specialty patients in coordination with the team
• Manage discharge/visit board and exam rooms ensuring timely visits and smooth discharges
• Handle nurse/doctor messages and triage for doctors; facilitate client solutions
• Process pharmacy requests and update billing/invoices for ER patients
• Call previous day's ER clients for follow-up feedback

As a Patient Care Coordinator, you will a ct as a liaison between the front and back of the hospital by facilitating client/patient flow between the waiting room, exam rooms, CSR staff , and clinical staff, triaging patients, supporting medical phone calls, coordinating client/doctor communication, and performing ER visit follow-up calls for both locations. Evening, weekend , and holiday work across both locations may be required as part of the normal workweek.

As the Patient Care Coordina tor, you will:

• Triaging incoming patients, collect and record vital signs, document patient history
• Monitor the waiting/exam room clients; update clients on wait time/patient status

• Maintain open communication with the doctor and technical staff to minimize wait times and maximize patient flow

• Coordinate patient flow between multiple specialties as needed, primary focus is to the ER services

• Facilitate and perform discharge for emergency patients and specialty services as needed in coordination with the technical team

• Manage patient discharge/visit board and exam rooms; ensure comfortable and timely visits & discharges

• Check ER doctor message bin and triage messages for doctors; facilitate solutions for clients
• Facilitate pharmacy requests

• Receive and address patient care telephone calls from the general public
• Update billing and Invoices for ER patients

• Call previous day's ER clients for follow-up feedback

Job Requirements:

• Previous work experience in veterinary and/or animal background required, (1-2 years preferred)
• Strong organizational skills and attention detail
• Strong customer service skillset
