Job summary

El Paso Animal Emergency Veterinary Referral Center is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant/Technician for full-time or part-time hours. You will support our veterinary team caring for animals and ensuring a positive client experience, including lab processing, in-house testing, anesthesia monitoring, and assisting during procedures.

This 24/7 emergency hospital at 1220 Airway Blvd offers advanced diagnostics and a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting.
• Strong animal handling skills with various species.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
• Basic veterinary terminology and procedures.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
• Physical stamina to lift and carry animals, stand for long periods, and perform cleaning tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinary staff with restraint, medication, and sample collection.
• Monitor ICU patients and record vitals on treatment sheets.
• Respond to emergencies, CPR, and triage.
• Maintain equipment, restock supplies, report inventory needs.
• Keep clinic clean; disinfect surfaces, kennels, and cages.
• Prepare examination rooms and keep them stocked.
• Greet and assist clients; explain basics to clients.
• Escort clients and pets to rooms; collect medical history.
• Assist with procedures: setup equipment, hold animals, monitor wellbeing.
• Prepare and label lab samples; follow protocols.
• Assist with radiography: position animals and operate x-ray.
• Educate clients on meds, preventive care, post-op instructions.
• Maintain accurate patient records.
• Assist with inventory management and storage.
• Contribute to a positive team atmosphere.
