Job summary

El Paso Animal Emergency Veterinary Referral Center is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant/Technician for full-time or part-time hours. You will support our veterinary team caring for animals and ensuring a positive client experience, including lab processing, in-house testing, anesthesia monitoring, and assisting during procedures.

This 24/7 emergency hospital at 1220 Airway Blvd offers advanced diagnostics and a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting.
  • Strong animal handling skills with various species.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
  • Basic veterinary terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Physical stamina to lift and carry animals, stand for long periods, and perform cleaning tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinary staff with restraint, medication, and sample collection.
  • Monitor ICU patients and record vitals on treatment sheets.
  • Respond to emergencies, CPR, and triage.
  • Maintain equipment, restock supplies, report inventory needs.
  • Keep clinic clean; disinfect surfaces, kennels, and cages.
  • Prepare examination rooms and keep them stocked.
  • Greet and assist clients; explain basics to clients.
  • Escort clients and pets to rooms; collect medical history.
  • Assist with procedures: setup equipment, hold animals, monitor wellbeing.
  • Prepare and label lab samples; follow protocols.
  • Assist with radiography: position animals and operate x-ray.
  • Educate clients on meds, preventive care, post-op instructions.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Assist with inventory management and storage.

Job description

Join our team at El Paso Animal Emergency Veterinary Referral Center as a FULL TIME OR PART TIME compassionate and enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant/Technician. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting our veterinary team in providing exceptional care to our animal patients and ensuring a positive experience for our clients. Your responsibilities will include assisting with collecting and processing lab samples, performing in-house testing, monitoring anesthesia and surgical patients; preparing surgical packs and maintaining sterile technique, animal handling, maintaining cleanliness in the hospital, preparing exam rooms, and providing assistance during medical procedures.

El Paso Animal Emergency Center is a 24/7 emergency veterinary hospital located at 1220 Airway Blvd. We are equipped with advanced diagnostics, including digital radiography, ultrasound, in-house lab, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, CT, MRI, and much more.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with various tasks, including animal restraint, medication administration, and sample collection.
  • Monitoring patients in ICU and recording vitals on treatment flow sheets.
  • Responding to emergencies, including CPR and triage of critical cases.
  • Maintaining medical equipment, restocking supplies, and reporting inventory needs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized clinic/hospital environment by disinfecting surfaces, sanitizing equipment, and cleaning kennels and cages.
  • Prepare examination rooms for appointments, ensuring they are well-stocked and organized.
  • Greet and assist clients, helping them feel welcome and comfortable during their visit.
  • Escort clients and their pets to exam rooms and obtain preliminary information, such as medical history and reason for the visit.
  • Provide support during medical procedures, including setting up equipment, holding animals, and monitoring their well‑being.
  • Prepare and label laboratory samples accurately, following proper protocols.
  • Assist with radiography (X-rays) by positioning animals and operating equipment under the direction of the veterinary team.
  • Help educate clients on topics such as medication administration, preventive care, and post‑operative instructions.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of patient care, treatments, and interactions.
  • Assist with inventory management, restocking supplies, and maintaining an organized storage area.
  • Participate in maintaining a positive and collaborative team atmosphere.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting.
  • Strong animal handling skills and comfort working with a variety of species.
