Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department in Tampa, FL. The role focuses on triaging emergencies, assisting DVMs, performing diagnostics, ICU/inpatient care, discharge, and client communication.

The ideal candidate provides nursing care per hospital standards, supports rounds, administers medications, and performs phlebotomy and basic physical exams while staying current with anesthesia monitoring and CPR

Qualifications

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications and monitor responses.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical examinations including vitals like heart rate, pulse, CRT, mucous membranes, temperature, and respiration.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment for ASA I/II patients.
• Follow RECOVER CPR guidelines and perform designated roles as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exams and document vitals.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment as needed.
• Maintain CPR readiness per RECOVER guidelines.
