Veterinary Emergency Group is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Austin, TX (South Lamar). You’ll support your team, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real time, from triage to treatment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and your team.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg.
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.
• Able to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and a steady support, triaging incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, from bloodwork to imaging.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with team.
• Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings.
• Join rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (provided).
• Grow into advanced roles through guided training pathways.
