Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking a Part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant in New Jersey. You’ll be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting your team, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time.

You’ll handle triage, treatments, and anesthesia support alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians. You’ll join a path where careers start, grow, and thrive, with CPR training, guided pathways to advanced responsibilities, and a dynamic, fast-paced hospital environment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Able to stand for long periods, lift up to 25 kg independently and up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Willing to work in a noisy environment with strong odors and nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage patients, and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork and imaging.
• Support anesthesia and sedation with credentialed staff and monitor patients.
• Set up IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Participate in outpatient or inpatient care, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds to stay aligned with the clinical picture and continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into more advanced duties such as anesthesia support and ultrasound through training pathways.
