VEG in New Jersey is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be at the heart of the action from day one, supporting the team, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time.

You’ll triage, assist with treatments, and help with anesthesia and diagnostics, with growth pathways into advanced roles and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg and work in a noisy, odor-rich environment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and monitor IV fluids, transfusions, and meds.
• Support care from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced tasks like anesthesia support and ultrasound.
