Job summary

VEG is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant in New York. You will be at the heart of the action, supporting the team, comforting pet parents, and learning on the job from day one. Pathways exist to grow into credentialed technician roles or other advanced responsibilities.

You will work in a fast-paced ER, assist with procedures, triage, and ongoing patient care, with training provided to advance your skills and certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with your team and pet parents.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients, guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork and imaging.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and meds.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
