Job summary

VEG is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team from day one, assisting with triage, treatments, and diagnostics while comforting pet parents. You’ll work alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians to provide anesthesia and sedation support, IV management, and continuous care across settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.
• Excellent communicator with team and pet parents.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, lift up to 25 kg alone and up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Willing to work in a noisy environment with strong odors and to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients, and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care across outpatient and inpatient settings, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds to stay aligned with the clinical picture and continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certification through training.
