Job summary

VEG is hiring an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support the care of pets and their families from day one. You’ll work closely with veterinarians and technicians in a fast-paced ER environment.

You will triage, assist with treatments, monitoring, and procedures, and participate in a structured growth path including anesthesia support and ultrasound training. Your role helps ensure outstanding patient care and client service every shift.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and experience with practice management software and EMR.
• Excellent communicator with clients and team.
• Good fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Able to stand long hours, kneel and lift up to 25 kg, and assist with up to 40 kg.
• Willing to work in a noisy environment.
• Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging and catheter placement.
• Support anesthesia and sedation setups with credentialed staff.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions and medication administration.
• Aid during all care moments: outpatient or inpatient, exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds and monitor the clinical picture for continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities via guided training pathways.
• Operate within state law.
