Olympia Pet Emergency in Olympia, Washington, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant (Day Shift) to support veterinarians and technicians with daily tasks, equipment maintenance, patient care, and clerical duties. Qualifications

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must have previous veterinary experience: 2+ years in ER setting, or 3+ years in general practice

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients
• Greet patients and owners, weighing the patient and recording vital signs upon arrival
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medications as directed by licensed technicians
• Calm and soothe anxious patients
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment and ensure safety and proper documentation
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper records and security of controlled drugs
• Feed patients as prescribed and monitor appetites; report unusual conditions
• Communicate with clients to ensure comfort when leaving their pet
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and sanitization; laundry and facility upkeep
• Bath and groom patients staying overnight; ensure proper grooming before release
• Adhere to safety and wellness regulations and follow doctor/LVT directions
• Maintain accurate medical records and show up for full-time shifts
• Promote hospital products/services and support the organization
• Respond promptly to directions from DVM/LVT and perform other duties as assigned
