Job summary

MedVet is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our clinical team in Ohio. The role supports patient care, case discussions, and nursing activities in a fast‑paced emergency setting.

The position requires veterinary experience with emergency care preferred. Compensation ranges from $17 to $28 per hour based on experience, with a schedule starting 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and rotating weekend shifts, along with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; previous emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant‑rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education, including home‑care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in‑house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Emergency Veterinary Assistant

Proposed Schedule: 9:00 a‑9:30 p Monday, Thursday, Rotating Saturday/Sunday
Salary range: $17.00‑28.00 /hr based on experience.
