Job summary

VEG is expanding its emergency veterinary team in Oceanside. As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you’ll be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting your team, comforting pet parents, and learning the ropes in real time.

You’ll assist with triage, treatments, and the tail wags, working with credentialed technicians and veterinarians to set up anesthesia and monitor cases. This role opens the door to advanced training and growth within a fast-paced ER environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR experience.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.

Responsibilities

• Triage incoming patients and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, IV access).
• Support anesthesia/sedation setup with credentialed techs and veterinarians.
• Set up/manage IV fluids, transfusions, medications.
• Assist during all care moments, outpatient or inpatient, from exam to treatment.
• Join patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization.
