Job summary

Bellevue Veterinary Emergency + Specialty Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support emergency procedures, triage, and nursing care for animals under DVM and LVT supervision.

You will help prepare treatment areas, manage supplies, perform phlebotomy, and assist with various procedures while communicating clearly with clients and maintaining hospital standards in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active Washington State Medication Clerk License preferred.
  • Certificate from NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred.
  • 1-2 years of emergency and critical care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture built on Respect, Learning, Do the Right Thing, WOW Service, and Fun.
  • Assist veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians with emergency procedures, treatments, and medical care for animals.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Perform accurate and appropriate triage, history taking, assists with physical exams, basic nursing care, and discharges.
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Accurately count heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucus membranes, temperature, and respiratory rate.
  • Remain current on CPR guidelines and assist as assigned.
  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare exam rooms.
  • Set up supplies for procedures for LVTs and DVMs.
  • Clean, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments.
  • Place intravenous catheters under supervision.
  • Walk and restrain patients safely during exams and procedures.
  • Follow treatment sheets and complete treatments timely.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficient in taking and recording vital signs, administering medications, and running basic labs.
  • Assist LVTs with restraint, procedures, and treatments.
  • Communicate updates to clients regarding pet status, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Adhere to hospital protocols and comply with regulations.
  • Provide professional, efficient, quality care and excellent service while maintaining productivity.
  • Support a collaborative, team-focused environment.
