Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Worthington, OH, seeks an Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant to join a fast-paced specialty team. You will help evaluate patients, assist DVM, monitor anesthesia, perform in-house labs, and educate clients on home care and meds.

Our ideal candidate has prior veterinary experience (emergency preferred), strong math skills for dosage calculations, and the ability to adapt to shift work.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required.
• Emergency experience is desirable.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
