General Summary of Position
MedSTAR Transport within MedStar Health is actively seeking Emergency Vehicle Operators / Emergency Medical Techs to provide basic patient medical care during interfacility ambulance transport. You will perform medical procedures under the supervision of a transport paramedic, transport nurse, or established protocol.

- New, full-time Emergency Vehicle Operator positions only
- Cannot be employed by MedStar Health in the same role within the past two years.
Payout - $8,000 total with an 18-month commitment:
- $3,000 to start (paid at successful completion of orientation/probation)
- $2,500 at 12 months
- $2,500 at 18 months

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate the ground ambulance obeying all driving laws.
- Conduct an inspection of the assigned ambulance at the beginning of each shift to ensure it is ready and safe for use.
- Provide feedback and participate in program safety initiatives as part of the safety management system.
- Contribute to the achievement of department goals and adhere to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards. Comply with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Ensure cleanliness and appropriate supply levels in transport vehicle(s).
- Establish and maintain professional radio communications with MedSTAR and other agencies, adhering to FCC protocols.
- Initiate department standing orders for appropriate patients. Perform basic airway techniques including oxygen therapy. May perform bag-mask ventilation in emergencies.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families. Provide basic patient comfort measures and environmental support as needed.
- Participate in MedSTAR Transport safety program.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and community outreach efforts, representing the department and hospital.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Transport patients to various locations, load and unload patients, equipment, and passengers. Assist in unloading and transportation of patients from other vehicles as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Successful completion of an approved EMT course required
- Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to release from orientation required
Experience
- 1-2 years EMT experience preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- NREMT - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) required
- EMT in the District of Columbia within 30 days required
- EMT in Maryland required
- Affiliation with MedSTAR Transport or Mid Atlantic Air Transportation Services as an EMT prior to release from orientation required
- CPR (BLS and NRP) from AHA or Red Cross within 90 days required
- FEMA ICS 100 and ICS 200 courses required prior to release from orientation
- Valid State Driver's License in good standing required, with no more than four points
- Completion of approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (e.g., CEVO, EVOC) prior to release from orientation required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication
- Basic computer skills preferred
This position has a hiring range of $21.83 - $33.49.
