Job summary

Midwestern University US in Glendale, AZ is seeking a Specialty Care Veterinary Technician for Emergency Triage. You will be the first clinical touchpoint for emergent patients, performing rapid assessment, prioritization, and stabilization within the ECC Service, while supporting teaching and bedside mentorship.

The role involves triage categorization, early nursing interventions, advanced monitoring, and coordination with clinicians, students, and clients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CVT preferred; 2–4 years in emergency/small animal setting recommended.

Responsibilities

• Perform primary and secondary surveys to assign acuity.
• Identify life‑threatening problems and activate triage protocols.
• Coordinate patient flow from lobby to emergency treatment/ICU.
• Provide clear updates to clients on triage progress.
• Document phone interactions and arrival instructions in medical records.
• Escalate red flags to the clinician on‑duty.
• Independently triage routine and urgent cases; support workflow improvements.
• Train and mentor veterinary students and junior staff where applicable.
