Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (District 6A) seeks Temporary Snowplow Operators for Transportation Generalist or Transportation Associate roles in multiple district locations across Minnesota. Positions are emergency, intermittent, and may require night, weekend, and holiday shifts with potential overtime.

Immediate drug testing and CDL verification are required. Eligible applicants must hold a valid CDL, pass preemployment checks, and be prepared for varying shifts and assignments

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or B CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and obtain Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months.
• Incumbent subject to drug and alcohol testing and preplacement drug test for substances including marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, MDMA/MDA/MDEA and 6-AM.
• Must be registered in FMCSA CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Working knowledge of English to read, write, speak and understand information and communicate with others.
• Experience: One year in snow/ice, soil, road maintenance, or related activities; education substitution options exist.
• Veterans may be eligible for a CDL waiver based on military experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and post-storm cleanup.
• Performs winter stockpile setup and anti-icing/de-icing chemical transfer.
• Performs work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes.
• Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.
• Performs traffic control set-ups and notifies dispatch of disabled vehicles.
