Job summary

VDOT is seeking a hardworking individual to support winter operations and emergency responses. The role involves operating medium and heavy equipment, applying abrasives, plowing, and debris removal to keep Virginia roadways safe during snow events.

Applicants must hold a valid CDL and DOT medical card, pass pre-employment screenings, and be able to work 12-hour shifts including nights. Safety shoes are required, and a valid driver's license is essential.

Qualifications

• Heavy manual labor capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and sustained physical activity.
• Ability to work day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
• CDL and DOT medical card required; comply with DOT/VDOT policies for CDL equipment.
• Safety shoes required.
• Experience operating medium and heavy equipment (dump trucks, tractors, loaders, graders).
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support snow/ice removal operations on roadways.
• Operate equipment to clear roadways and apply abrasives/chemicals.
• Perform debris removal and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Respond to weather emergencies as needed.
