Qualifications

• NFPA Firefighter 1 & 2; Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations certifications.
• National Registry or Indiana EMT/Paramedic certification.
• Out-of-state certifications must be transferable to Indiana and must be completed within 90 days of hire.
• Must be able to meet and maintain applicable state, county, and local EMT/Paramedic certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency scenes including fire, medical, sprinkler system discharge, elevator emergencies, hazardous materials, and other incidents.
• Arrives on scene, performs scene size-up, and relays information to central dispatch of current situation and needs.
• Performs rescue procedures including machinery extrication and high/low angle rescue.
• Performs fire suppression using fire apparatus, hydrants, and extinguishers.
• Responds to hazardous material emergencies and provides spill containment for releases.
• Responds to medical emergencies, initiates patient assessment and stabilization, and transports patients.
• Administers treatment following protocols at the scene or in a response vehicle.
• Performs triage during mass casualty incidents.
• Prepares logs and reports as required.

Education
