Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Psychiatric Technician to join our Emergency Psychiatric Empath Unit. The role involves providing direct and indirect care to adults and children in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team focused on empathetic support, assessment, and stabilization.

As part of a patient-centered approach, you will participate in treatment programs, help maintain safety, and engage patients in milieu activities while collaborating with nursing and other professionals.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a mental health or behavioral assistant working with adults and/or children.
• Experience with 24/7 residential programs or psychiatry/psychology-based programs preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in stressful situations.
• Basic computer and keyboard competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office suite and/or competency with electronic clinic documentation.
• Demonstrates ability to multi-task under stressful situations.
• Demonstrates ability to communicate, collaborate and manage relationships with interdisciplinary members while maintaining patient/family centeredness and safety.
• Basic skills in cleaning, cooking, and meal preparation.
• Other required training (first aid, food safety, comorbid disorders, trauma informed care) is offered after hire and must be completed within first 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents in activities to support treatment plans.
• Lead social activities, games and crafts to engage patients and reinforce therapy concepts.
