Job summary

UAB Medicine’s laboratory team in the Emergency Department operates in a STAT environment, delivering rapid, accurate results to support critical patient care at Alabama’s premier level I trauma center. The role includes reporting complex procedures and collaborating with care teams to ensure timely decisions.

Day-to-day duties include performing routine and complex lab analyses, assisting with instrument maintenance and quality control, and supporting educational activities and specialized

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor’s, or equivalent, with NAACLS-accredited internship.
• ASCP/AMT certification required within 15 months of hire.
• BLS training may be required within 30 days depending on patient care tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform and report results of routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids and other substances.
• Assist supervisor and team lead with instrument evaluation, quality control, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
• Assist with apheresis procedures, bone marrows, and coordinate educational sessions as needed.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or related field with 12-month NAACLS-approved Medical Technology internship

ASCP or AMT certification within 15 months from date of hire

BLS certification within 30 days from date of hire (depending on patient care performed)
