Job summary

UAB Medicine's UAB Hospital Emergency Department lab operates in a true STAT environment, delivering rapid, accurate results to support immediate decisions for critical patients at Alabama's leading trauma center.

You will collaborate with emergency providers and care teams to maintain high-quality patient care in real-time, thrive in high-acuity settings, and contribute your expertise visibly in patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or related field with 12-month internship in NAACLS-approved program and ASCP/AMT eligibility.
• Certification from ASCP or AMT must be obtained within 13 months from date of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required within 30 days depending on patient care type.

Responsibilities

• Perform, check accuracy and report results of routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids and other substances.
• Assist supervisor with evaluating new instruments, reagent prep, quality control and troubleshooting; equipment maintenance.
• Assist team lead with apheresis procedures, bone marrows, coordinating educational sessions, computer operations and quality control/improvement activities.
