Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) EMT team responds to medical emergencies at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX. The EMT assesses patients, provides on-site care and during transport, and reports findings to the health team.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, documentation, medication administration, and support for physicians. Requires active EMT-Basic and CPR certifications and at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; 1 year related experience.
• Active EMT-Basic and CPR certifications.
• Ability to work in a correctional health setting.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care under physician supervision within EMT scope.
• Emergency response and basic life support, CPR as needed.
• Assess patients, review medical history and medications.
• Document conditions and treatments in medical records promptly.
• Administer prescribed medications as ordered by provider.
• Provide clinical assistance to physicians during procedures and treatment.
• Perform other duties as required.

The EMT is on the team that is first to respond to emergency calls for medical assistance at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX. The responder assesses the situation, obtains basic medical history and performs a physical examination of the patient, and provides emergency care at the site as well as during transit to the hospital.

Major/Essential Functions

• Direct Patient Care: serves patients in the health facility under the direction of a physician and within the scope of practice of an EMT.
• Emergency Response: Provide emergent, urgent, and routine medical response and basic life support to patients in the medical facility, utilizing CPR and necessary equipment.
• Patient Assessments: Evaluate patients' current medical conditions, including medical history, current medications, past medications, and other treatment services.
• Clinical Activity Documentation: Documents timely, clearly, and concisely; medical conditions and health needs, medical treatment and history, including currently prescribed medications, and ongoing medical service in the patient's medical record.
• Medication Administration: Administers prescribed treatments and medications ordered by the provider.
• Provides Clinical Assistance: Provides support for physicians and/or medical providers during procedures and treatment protocols.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School equivalent education completed plus 1 year minimum of related experience. Must have an active EMT-Basic certification as well as active CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with electronic health records.
• Experience in a dynamic health facility under the direction of supervising nurses.
