Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is seeking a healthcare professional to augment a supervising physician's data gathering and patient care planning at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX. The role emphasizes outpatient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment with thorough documentation for continuity of care.

The position includes on-call virtual care during scheduled hours, triage support to onsite clinical teams, and clear documentation to guide patient management.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a Physician Assistant training program approved by the AMA Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation.
• Current Physician Assistant license in Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.
• Certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA) or Nurse Practitioner certification as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in outpatient settings with clear documentation in health records.
• Be available for on-call virtual care during scheduled hours to support the onsite clinic and triage to higher levels of care.
• Refer patients to supervising physician, medical specialists, or other practitioners as needed with clear documentation.
• Coordinate with supervising physician and health facility director to plan and execute clinically effective and efficient health care services.
• Perform other duties as required within the scope of the job classification and position description.

Position Description

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

• Provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in an outpatient health facility. Provides timely, appropriate care to assigned patients as measured and reported by clear and concise documentation in patients' health records.
• On-call medical services availability - During scheduled "On-Call" hours, is available to connect with the onsite clinic for virtual care services and in support of the onsite clinical team. Conducts outpatient medical services virtually, and/or consults with onsite clinical teams for triage and assessment for urgent/emergency service referrals to community hospitals' emergency departments. Documents clearly and concisely in patients' health records for recording and reporting.
• Medical referral to physician, specialist partners, or other practitioners - Using sound clinical judgement, will elevate or refer patient care to supervising physician, medical specialists, or other practitioners (e.g., psychiatrist, Dentist) for appropriate level of care. Documents clearly and concisely in patients' health records for recording and reporting.
• Administrative activities - Coordinates with supervising physician and health facility director to strategize, plan, and execute health care services for patients that are clinically effective and efficient.
• Other duties - Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the job classification and/or position description.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in providing healthcare in-person and via telehealth. Understanding of health standards for quality outcomes, e.g. HEDIS/NCQA.
