Essential Functions:
The Emergency Medical Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising emergency medical staff consisting of EMTs, paramedics, and drivers. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage, while maintaining a safe work environment.
EMT Duties:
Responds to calls utilizing the proper response code and documenting mileage, grid, incident number and location on the daily trip sheet.
Obeys all traffic laws while responding and maintains a safe speed while driving through residential areas with limited use of the siren when approaching bystanders.
Carries all the needed equipment to the patient, including the Paramedic or trauma box, blood pressure cuff, EKG monitor and other supplies needed to perform treatment to the level of the EMT Paramedic.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills needed to perform and use all equipment on the unit.
Performs a primary and secondary survey on every patient to ensure that all illnesses or injuries are found and treated immediately.
Plans for daily crew assignments:
Plans daily assignments in advance and oversees operations of the crew to arrange time off for employees.
Verifies the correct implementation of pre-hospital care by employees:
Reviews daily run reports to assure that a standard of care is being followed.
Makes recommendation to the EMS educator for in-service training on errors made in documentation or patient care to allow for a complete learning experience by the employee.
Performance Improvement:
Demonstrates and promotes compliance with all state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (i.e., patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, etc.).
Participates in the performance improvement program, protocols and Joint Commission project to enhance the operation of the department.
Operational duties:
Monitors the refueling of the ambulance and assures that the crews wash these units every shift change.
Assists the management in implementing new ideas to have a smooth transition by employees and is instrumental in the process of change.
Job Qualifications:
GED/High school diploma required .
NREMT-P State of LA EMT-P required .
CPR, Defensive Driving and Hazmat Awareness required .
ACLS within one year of hire required , PALS within 6 months required , CPI within 90 days of hire required , and PHTLS preferred .
Jefferson Parish permit required . Chauffeur's license or equivalent, if an out-of-state license is presented . Two (2) years of related experience as an EMT-P required .
