Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Responsible for monitoring and evaluating the Emergency General Surgery Verification Program (EGS-VP), including organizing services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to care of the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) patient. Collaborates and communicates with physicians, clinical staff, and departments to coordinate EGS services and maintain continuity of care. Plans and oversees education for staff, physicians, and the community as needed. Abstracts data on qualifying EGS-VP registry patients as defined within the accreditation manual. Represents the EGS program on various hospital and community committees.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be licensed in Idaho as a Registered Nurse as defined by the Idaho State Board of Nursing. Multistate licenses must establish residency with the Idaho Board of Nursing within 60 days of hire. Bachelor's degree in nursing required; master's preferred. At least 5 years of inpatient nursing experience in Emergency, Operating Room, Med Surg, or Critical Care. Surgical Critical Care/Stepdown experience highly preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Partner across the organization to ensure compliance with the current version of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) EGS-VP standards.
  2. Monitor and track EGS patients throughout the care continuum.
  3. Oversee daily operations of the EGS service, including patient care, resource management, and clinical practice support.
  4. Develop, implement, and maintain clinical care protocols, referral algorithms, and tracking mechanisms in coordination with the EGS-VP Medical Director and other professionals.
  5. Monitor performance improvement activities, including clinical outcomes and system issues related to quality of care.
  6. Oversee and facilitate quality improvement efforts with the EGS Committee, ensuring a multidisciplinary review process.
  7. Conduct systematic, data-driven quality improvement activities to enhance processes or outcomes.
  8. Perform clinical data abstraction and analysis to support reporting and quality improvement activities.
  9. Ensure timely data collection and reporting for program accreditation.
  10. Maintain required certifications, training, and CME requirements relevant to the program manager and data abstraction roles.
  11. Use program data to identify and monitor improvements from QI initiatives.
  12. Maintain surveillance of specific events through data abstraction, focusing on accreditation-required events.
  13. Support case review and data collation with the EGS-VP Medical Director.
  14. Provide oversight for staff development and education locally and regionally.
  15. Develop educational outreach to primary care physicians and referring facilities to promote timely diagnosis of EGS conditions.
  16. Participate in research activities, including data analysis and dissemination of findings.
  17. Adhere to the medical center’s Customer Service Standards, including communication and professional conduct.
  18. Proficient in computer skills.
