Job summary

Houston Public Works is seeking an Electrician to research and analyze causes of electrical failures; repair, replace and install equipment to maximize functionality. The role includes preventive maintenance to keep operations safe and clean.

The electrician will troubleshoot and upgrade electrical, electrochemical, and electronic systems, respond to emergencies, inspect sites for installation needs, support inventory control, and may work on-call at nights and weekends.

Qualifications

Requires high school diploma or GED.
Completes an apprentice electrician program approved by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.
Valid Texas Journeyman Electrical License is required.
Driver license required; city policy on driving applies.
Preference given to veterans with the necessary qualifications.

Responsibilities

Provide preventive maintenance to ensure safe, clean operating conditions.
Troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade electrical, electrochemical, and electronic installations and systems.
Respond to emergency calls on various electrical failures and shutdowns.
Inspect field locations to determine appropriate components for installation.
Assist in inventory control to maintain supply levels of electrical parts.
Troubleshoot and upgrade instrumentation and subsystems as needed.
Be willing to work on-call nights and weekends.
May drive a city vehicle and maintain vehicle mileage records.
Perform other duties as assigned.
