Job summary

City of Houston, Department of Public Works, Emergency Management division is seeking an Electrician. You will research and analyze causes of electrical failures, repair and install equipment, and perform preventive maintenance across drinking water operations.

This role requires a Texas Journeyman Electrical License, a valid driver license, and willingness to be on-call nights and weekends. Work involves field inspections and potential city vehicle use for site visits.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and completion of an apprentice electrician program.
• Requires valid Texas Journeyman Electrical License.
• Requires valid Driver License and compliance with City of Houston driving policy.

Responsibilities

• Researches and analyzes causes of electrical failures and repairs, replaces and installs equipment and related hardware.
• Provides preventive maintenance for safe and clean operating conditions.
• Troubleshoots, maintains, manages, and upgrades electrical, electrochemical, and electronic installations and systems.
• Responds to emergency calls for electrical failures and shutdowns.
• Inspects field locations to determine placement of electrical components for installation.
• Assists in inventory control of electrical parts and components.
• May drive a city vehicle and maintain vehicle mileage records.
• Willing to work on-call nights and weekends.
