Job summary

Isle of Wight County is seeking a Dispatcher to handle incoming law enforcement and Fire/EMS calls on the E-911 system and dispatch the appropriate agency to ensure rapid response and public safety in a 24-hour operation. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of work experience; physical demands are sedentary with occasional lifting.

Vision, hearing, and mental acuity are essential, and night, weekend, and holiday shifts are expected.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma/ GED and one year of work experience.

Responsibilities

• Receives and screens incoming calls to law enforcement, Fire/EMS, and the 911 system.
• Answers questions and/or refers caller to appropriate staff.
• Obtains information from callers and directs to the correct responding agency.
• Dispatches the appropriate agency with relevant details for officer safety.
• Logs calls and dispatch information in an automated system; may enter incident reports.
• Notifies jurors of impending duty; works nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
