Job summary

BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo is seeking an ED Unit Clerk for the 7pm–3am shift. The role focuses on clerical support, patient flow, and coordination with the ED team to ensure efficient care delivery.

Responsibilities include handling the phone system, scanning and indexing documents, arranging EMS transfers, paging physicians, and assisting with admissions and patient safety tasks as part of the trauma/emergency center team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or preferred.
• 1-3 months related experience and/or training preferred.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare processes.
• Able to operate a computer and basic software applications.

Responsibilities

• Answer and manage 13 incoming phone lines and calls for the ED.
• Process encounter scanning, copying, faxing and organize records.
• Coordinate patient transports and radiology transfers as needed.
• Monitor the 13-bed Patient Safety Surveillance system and relay alerts.
• Paging and contacting on-call physicians; support SBAR communications.
• Assist with admissions, bed assignments and ED workflow coordination.
