Job summary

The Hillingdon Hospital is seeking a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse for the Emergency Department. You will support the ED Matron and Senior Sisters in running the department, ensuring patients are seen, treated, discharged or transferred within the four-hour standard.

You will assess care needs, develop and evaluate care plans with the multidisciplinary team, and teach and supervise staff, taking charge of the department when required while promoting safety and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Involves assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.
• Teaches and supervises qualified and unqualified staff.
• Takes responsibility for a group of patients and acts as shift lead when required.
• Ensures patients are seen, treated, discharged or transferred within four-hour emergency standards.

Responsibilities

• Support the ED Matron and Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses in the effective running of the Emergency Department.
• Assist with clinical duties in other areas of the Trust when needed.
• Monitor standards of care and daily ED checklists.
• Assist in transferring critically ill patients to imaging or other hospitals; complete required transfer training.
• Carry shift leadership bleep and take operational responsibility for the shift.
• Plan, organise and deploy staff according to workload and competencies.
