Job summary

OU Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the Adult Emergency Department on day shift. The HUC will support patient flow, records, reception duties, and unit logistics, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. No prior experience required; HS diploma or GED accepted.

Strong communication and computer skills essential. The role emphasizes teamwork, compliance audits, and participation in quality improvement projects to enhance patient care.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare environments.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Excellent computer skills and typing used for record-keeping and inventories.
• Familiarity with inventory systems and environmental services software.
• Understanding of electronic medical records and resource allocation.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, prepares and maintains patient medical records and files.
• Provides receptionist-type coverage for the area: handle routine patient calls, intercom pages, personal callers, route incoming mail and answer routine inquiries.
• Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges by coordinating, notifying and following up with the appropriate personnel.
• Maintains or arranges for repair of equipment.
• Assists with inventory needs, ordering, stocking, and distribution of supplies.
• Supports the healthcare team by anticipating and responding to team requests and patient needs.
