Job summary

OU Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the Med/Surg 3rd/4th Floor at Edmond Medical Center. The role supports patient care by organizing records, handling calls, coordinating admissions/discharges, and ensuring supplies and equipment are available.

You will work under the Nurse Manager, mentoring new HUCs and participating in audits and safety reporting, with a focus on efficient unit operations and patient flow.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare environmental services.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Excellent computer skills and typing sufficient for daily tasks.
• Familiarity with EMR and inventory software systems.
• Understanding of cleaning systems and resource allocation.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, prepares and maintains patient medical records and files.
• Provides receptionist-type coverage: handle routine calls and inquiries.
• Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges by coordinating with staff.
• Maintains or arranges for repair of equipment.
• Assists with inventory needs, ordering, stocking, and distribution of supplies.
• Mentors new HUCs and participates in audits and safety reporting.
